Factorio "There is no Spoon" on 100% Default Settings: The Ultimate Comprehensive Guide!
Get Shapez.io here: https://bit.ly/shapez-mhv
The new major update for Shapez.io is coming out 9 October (THIS FRIDAY!), so this is your last chance to get the game for only $4!
But is it a good game? Let's put it this way: it's the sole reason this video was delayed by a full week... Sorry guys, I couldn't stop playing until I designed and built a contraption that could produce every possible shape in the game on demand! I might show that off in a later video, but first I'll focus on finishing this series!
=========================
Apologies for the lack of videos lately. This "There-is-no-spoon"-project grew much bigger than I anticipated. It turns out, just winging a playthrough is a long, long shot away from being an actual fool-proof guide with a structured and clear build order.
Well, several 100s of hours later into this "Iceberg" project, all of the "underwater" stuff is finally finished (realizing the first video/original style just wasn't going to cut it, designing the build order, multiple playtesting playthroughs and refining while writing and updating a reliable guide, a final playthrough while strictly following my own guide step-by-step to check for completeness, and now finally recording and editing the actual playthrough!)
But now we're getting to the visual part of the iceberg, the final recorded and edited playthrough with the downloadable guide (released with every episode)! Now that everything is properly planned out, I'm estimating that a new installment of this four-part series should come out every 2 weeks or so!
In this video we cover the "Red Tech Era": The game opening, how to deal with the first battles, how to set up your base so that it's also suitable for the later game, and setting up red+green science!

Factorio "There is no Spoon" (finish the game in 8 hours or less): The Ultimate Complete Guide
--- Features lots of tips and tricks, ratios, do's and don'ts ---
Play along: Map seed 1212558549
(but for the love of god turn ON the research queue... it drives me CRAZY to play without!)
If you want to, cheese the biters: Set pollution spread to 0% and give yourself a 600% starting area: it's like playing on peaceful mode except you can still get the achievement!
My self-imposed rules:
- DEFAULT MAP SETTINGS (no tweaks, so biters on, research Q off (why god why), etc)
- NO BLUEPRINTS from the blueprint library/other games
- NO BOTS, no trains (self build everything, not even personal roboport!)
- NO TURRETS! (at all! Yes, also no gun turrets!)
Map generation tips:
Most important features in the preview screen:
- Can you build without obstructions? (cliffs, forests, water, nests)
- Are there enough resources nearby? (oil, extra iron and copper)
Secondary features (bonus points but not requirements):
- Do the starting resources not overlap?
- Are there forests which absorb pollution?
- Are there not too many enemies nearby?
Roughly plan out how your base is going to look:
- Main bus area
- Smelting area
- Power
- Oil processing
- Secondary resources hook up
- Memorize where the nearby nests are outside the starting area
(so you can guesstimate if any off-screen pollution is reaching the nests)
