Outlast puts the player in the largely defenseless shoes of journalist Miles Upshur who arrives at the infamous Mount Massive asylum and discovers swiftly that not all is well. The chief device to perceive the cramped corridors and the horrors lurking in the shadows is a video camera which also has night vision. Miles cannot contend with the monstrous survivors of whatever accident laid the institution to waste so he has to sneak and hide to survive...to Outlast the seemingly otherworldly terror that has twisted so many lost souls into parodies of humanity.
