A troop of some 250 soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, have paraded through the town of Warminster prior to their deployment to Afghanistan for nine months.

It gave family, friends and residents the opportunity to wish them farewell before they embark on their tour of duty.

The parade is all the more poignant following the recent tragic events in Afghanistan when five soldiers from 3 YORKS were killed after a Taliban bomb destroyed their armoured Warrior vehicle.

Schools were encouraged to allow their children to view the parade, and many members of the public lined the streets to extend their best wishes to the troops.

The parade was led by the Town Crier, and followed by the Band of the Royal Logistics Corps.
