Last Thursday saw the Army produce one of their most emphatic performances in the 90 year history of the inter services boxing tournament.

They won their 29th consecutive title in some some style dropping just one of the thirteen bouts.

Even before Caleb Salero of 42 Commando took to the ring against Adam Whitfield at Bantam weight, the Navy were already four points down, having failed to contest four bouts. A familiar tale. Whitfield was too good for his plucky opponent, taking it 14-5 on points for his fourth inter services title.

Kristian Touze saw off the Navy's promising Four Nations gold medallist Ricky Rose at Light Weight, but it was close as there were only four scoring points in the whole contest.

When Danny Allan went in at 67 kilos for his first inter services final, he knew a win against Anthony Smith would make the rest of the night academic, and so it proved, but again it was on points, though 8-2 was again convincing.

The Navy had no answer to the outstanding Army onslaught which continued at Light Middleweight. Tommy Leigh blew away Jason Rogers by a massive 17 points to three to put the Army eight nil up.

In the end the Navy's only point came at 75 kilos. Army Captain Shane Sadler was up against the highly talented Joel Kirby, hoping to make the Antiguan Olympics team. Again this was very tight, Kirby winning by just 3 points to 1.

The rest of the night went the way of the red corner. First John Pontone outpointing four times CS champion Paul Ormston at 81 kilos. This was the best bout of the night, Pontone winning 22-20.

Kevin Hayward stopped the Navy's Mat Phillips in the second round of their light heavyweight fight. And the tide of red continued at Heavyweight with Emanuel Izronreitei beating the Navy's Kyle De Banks on points before Jone Taukenikoro was victorious at Super heavyweight against leading Navy PTi Alfie Hinds.

The night really couldn't have been better for the Army, a 29th successive title, keeping their leechlike grip on the famous old Noble Stratuette

The Navy will be back next year, hoping against hope the Army don't make it three decades of domination when they meet in Portsmouth.
