Even the earliest basketball games were still surprisingly decent!

Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Fast Break, a digital basketball game released by Accolade in 1988, not to be confused with Magic Johnson's Fast Break released the next year. This one's not bad for the time, but definitely not something you'd typically want to go back to on a regular basis nowadays given how much better basketball games got on the PC and other consoles and computers not long after this one, especially given that there's no licensed players or teams involved.

Additional Information and Corrections:

* This game is now available as a digital download! A company by the name of Ziggurat has been buying up old licenses to get some old games available online again and this is one of the first of the retro Accolade titles to get the treatment! You can find it on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1544730/Fast_Break

* Even though the game doesn't show you how all the offensive and defensive plays work, I remember it came with several sheets visually showcasing all of the plays, which I've long since lost. :P

* Although the game's not licensed, there was clearly a sponsorship involved with Nike for their Air shoes as you'll see one along with its logo right after the title screen along with the program credits.

* Some of the more advanced ports, such as on the Amiga, have some extra graphics not present in the DOS version, such as a ref who pops up to blow the whistle.
