With Terry and Mai releasing soon for Street Fighter 6, I wanted to take a look at their original fighting games. This is the arcade version of Fatal Fury 1, which only had three playable characters. I'm actually pretty blown away by how cool the stages were for how old this is. We have full day and night cycles between rounds, and even rain fall. The enemies you encounter have stage-specific moves too, which is neat. One weird mechanic is the fact that you can be knocked into the background, and some stages have hazards instead. You couldn't control this yourself yet until the sequel, but you do have an attack to at least knock the opponent into the background. Overall, it's the start of a lot of great things for SNK and I'm glad I checked it out again.
