We got a surprising announcement that SNK vs. Capcom SVC Chaos will be released for Steam, giving us a chance to check it out. I remember seeing this game in the arcades, and nobody played it lol, probably because it came out years after the super popular and similar CVS2. It has a pretty big roster with a ton of secret characters you can now instantly access in this version. The controls take some time to get used to since it's a Neo Geo-style 4-button layout. The mechanics and art style are also more akin to SNK fighting games, but in a 1v1 format. The story is not told to you directly, but it's very odd. Basically, after a catastrophic event, all life is gone, and now the fighters find themselves in purgatory. Yeah, it's nuts. The stages and music are so bland and, well, lifeless because of this setting. On top of this, SNK unfortunately went through a rough time releasing this with a low budget and couldn't polish it up, making it seem really outdated for its time. Also, the single-player mode will only allow three continues until the game over, making it really frustrating to play since the CPU input reads you so hard. The game is still fun overall, though, with a giant move set and deep enough system, but you can definitely see why this game was a flop.
