I'm stuck in a time warp lately. I've been watching silent movies, reading WWII era comics and playing Atari 7800 games. I don't know why, I think my compulsion for starting list and completing everything of an idea have reached monumental levels. Well, I'm almost done with silent films and am halfway done with the Atari 7800 family of games. (there's apparently no leaving WWII comics).
American missed out on a gem here. Fatal Run was the last official release for the Atari 2600....in 1990! Thankfully, I'm playing the 7800 version here. In Fatal Run, you are tasked with driving an anti-radiation vaccine across the country in hopes of saving people from city to city after a radioactive comet smashes into earth decimating the population. It's a weird kind of Mad Max with infinite Aqua cola, guzzoline, and no chrome spray.
There's also this subplot that involves finding the secret words to input for a space ship launch. I don't really remember what the space shuttle is for and I never found any hidden messages, unless this was just the games way of pointing out there was a password system so you can continue. But hey, I got to see a sweet shuttle launch while chilling on the hood of my post apocalyptic ride, fully mulleted and bomber jacketed.
