FE8 HM Negative Growths - Chapter 18 v2 (with Commentary)
Welcome to my FE8 Negative Growths Playthrough.
Chapter 18 completed in 5 turns.
Total Turns: 112
04:15 sadly I can't drop Gerik one space farther since then Forde would be in range of the Gorgon, and she likes attacking him more than the phantom. Forde equips a killing edge for the double weapon triangle advantage, and so that he has a high chance of dealing some decent damage with a crit.
4:53 Forde can't get crit by the gargoyle and he has to dodge one of the two hits for a CoD of ~17%
5:00 If Seth doesn't dodge the hit from this Mogul, then he dies to one hit from either of the baels later on, so making sure he doesn't get hit here is easier than later with the spiders.
He also has to hit both times, since otherwise the Mogul would keep annoying me.
5:50 The best case scenario would be that I have a 1 use Silver lance here, and it breaks after Seth kills the Gargoyle so that he would swap to the killer lance right away, but sadly I didn't prepare a 1 use Silver Lance, and I didn't want to go back for that.
6:04 this is why baiting the Gorgon with the Phantom so that she moves straight down was so important, I didn't have to kill her with Cormag which means that he could kill an Egg, and Ephraim would have moved into that position anyway so doing it this way is much more efficient especially since, I want the Phantom to die during that Enemy phase and without having the gorgon alive that's not really possible.
6:21 The way this ended up going it wasn't actually important that he kills the second spider since I kept him there and had Myrrh go upwards instead. Having the spider dead just means that he will have a lower chance of death later on.
What I do with Seth and Myrrh is also very important for making this a 5 turn, since I didn't spend my time on Attacking the Spiders for a more reliable enemy phase, and instead handled all the enemies down there (except the Gargoyle) during the enemy phase, which frees their player phases for killing eggs.
8:20 I phrase this somewhat poorly. With the devil axe, Gerik kills the spiders as long as he hits both times, with the Killer Axe, he will have to crit to kill.
Since with a Killer axe the chance of getting atleast one crit would be ~50.77% and with the Devil Axe his chance to backfire is ~42.24%, so there isn't thaaaat big of a difference in reliablity. (thanks Jelly Unicorn for the corrected numbers)
This does ignore the +10% hit chance from the Killer Axe though.
10:26, actually since I ended up giving the Spider kills to Eirika instead of to Gerik, the chance of death for Ephraim was probably avoidable
