FE8 - No Mounts Low Turn Counts Run: Chapter 10 - Revolt at Carcino
Chapter 10 is completed in 5 turns (62 total).
Usually flierskipped in some way, this video sees us going about it the 'hard' way - going around the cliff and muscling our way through. Though Ross can peakwalk as a Berserker, he can only move 1 tile in any direction whilst on a mountain so it takes him forever to cross the terrain that way. Just going around is shorter.
Since we now have three units with 6 move, with Artur and Ross having promoted, it's not hugely difficult to transport Eirika so that Ross can conveniently drop her in seize range on turn 4. However, obtaining the Longbow from one of the ballisticians in the corner is difficult so Ross is given Joshua as well, and he has no trouble one-rounding the archer.
Ross will have to face quite a few sword users on the way, whom it can be rather difficult to double and actually connect axe attacks on. As a Berserker, at least Ross is able to critkill the enemies he whiffs - every once in a while that is. When he reaches S axes, which should be around next map or so, he'll have a +5 hit/crit bonus to his attacks letting him nail things harder.
Colm gets as many as three levels in this clear, all of them pretty darn good. Since I'm very unlikely to promote Joshua (Gerik and Garcia both want the crests), Colm can grow to surpass Joshua, beating him in movement and slowly catching up in most stats, without taking a promotion item (Ross needed the Ocean Seal anyway).
Oh yeah, new characters. Tethys, Innes and Gerik can all join automatically once the map is completed, but since this is the run where I'm supposed to use infantry units, I go ahead and send Tana to recruit them early on turn 3, letting me enjoy their presence in this game for 3 extra turns - which is enough for Gerik to level up once and Innes to build some bow rank attacking with the Short Bow. I believe when I outlined the rules of this run I did state that mounted characters can recruit foot units (wouldn't want to waste so much money recruiting Rennac later on, either, though frankly I might as well because I probably won't reach the secret shop on time anyway).
Much like Garcia, Gerik is yet another prospect Hero, and we will most certainly see him as a Hero at some point, the only question is which one of these two will take the premiere Hero Crest first. On the one hand, giving the crest to Gerik early means immediate benefit since Gerik is a better combat unit, but on the other hand, Gerik also appreciates a postponed promotion to gain some quick levels. We'll see how that goes.
Artur starts working on his staff rank more seriously here (the next map is THE best opportunity), using Mend three times and Unlock once, for a total of 14+2 staff wexp out of 40 necessary to reach C rank staves and with it access to the Barrier staff. He used Heal once in the previous chapter. I also invest into anima rank (Elfire gives double the normal anima wexp, 4x when KOing something with it) because Excalibur is a good tome since you can OHKO people with it.
As for Innes, his time to shine will come in the next chapter.
