[FF7R] Scorpion Sentinel under 4 minutes (NG, Normal)
Trying to optimise the first boss on normal difficulty, this boss being the one that everyone will have the same setup for in a New Game setting. Could be better, but I'm fine with leaving it under 4 minutes for now.
Just an excuse to upload sth.
My familiarity and consistency declines as it moves up phases. My approach is...
Phase 1: Nothing of note, it can be staggered before it even attacks.
Phase 2: I'm not sure if it's possible to prevent its wall cling. So waiting it to drop down before nullifying its barrier affords me a bit more ATB to rush it down quicker. (Cloud eating some wall cling missiles is not a strat to build Limit, I was just distracted.)
Phase 3: It works out that Cloud hitting all previous staggers nets him his Limit Break. After that I just pelt it with magic until something breaks.
Phase 4: This is where I frantically try to build enough stagger and ATB for Braver.
The combat system is hit or miss, but I can get into it; It's serviceable with some points of interest. Just would've liked the boss fights to be less puzzle-esque HP gated stagger fest ridden with unskippable cutscenes. Some means to adjust party members' behaviour would've been welcome as well.
Anyhow...
Someone gifted this game for me, despite my reluctance to receive it. Thus I have it now instead of later.
It feels like the game is too busy concerning itself with being cinematic at the cost of everything else. Exploration has been plenty of forced walk, forced gawk, and closed up shots of Cloud doing very detailed motion-captured animations. I'm midway through and I'm flip-flopping between entertained and exhausted.
My biggest issue with this endeavour is with the logistics. This is a questionably lengthy game that asks for an absurd amount of storage space, yet covers only the opening act of the original FF7 storyline, and only part 1 of however many more to come. Mayhap not the wisest delegation of resources is what I'm thinking.
Moving forward, I have no idea how or if the save file will carry over, how different will the combat system be in each episode, or will this retelling ever manage to reach its conclusion within a normal human lifespan.
But who am I to have these kinda thoughts anyway? Plenty of other more important things to be worried about in the immediate present, so I'll be focusing on that instead.
