FFT Bard's Magickal Refrain helps Shout Luso, Orator Agrias and Wonder Twins Rapha & Marach
I can't believe I did the impossible and made the bard, orator and Rapha/Marach (fka Rafa/Malak) useful in a magic based team. I also mentioned Luso's shout as you get that chapter 3 if you grind 500 job points (later vid is in hard to spell dugeura pass in chapter 4) as the bravery buffs boosts the unarmed monk, and you can use ultima magic with the magic boost that magickal refrain will empower like with skyseer/netherseer moves as well as orator's success rate.
I mentioned this as people like to rag on them (and overrate level 99 when you're good level 50-70) , though it took me years to figure this out as the game doesn't tell you formulas, similar to how enlighten would lower Marach's faith to do more damage to enemies (and use those dark knight swords post game if you are a grinding maniac). It also helps to do this on enemies trapped by obstacles as 1/4 or 1/3 is a greater chance than the T shaped 1/5 though war of the lions improved it by generally guaranteeing the middle gets hit, with an upper limit of 10 shots.
It helps to try to create your own challenge as a Lancer in chapter 4 did 10 damage with throw stone, that helps chapter 1 (especially with counter tackle as a monk who buffs both squire skills). It is funny to see Rapha, Marach and Reis (holy breath) keep going after they're already dead for overkill. Be careful if it flashes too much for some attacks.
Agrias's runeblade that I stole in chapter 3 buffs magic as well as Marach's japa Mala accessory for elemental spells. Wizard's robe helps as well, and you can get a really good build at high levels (they join at about Ramza's level and are terrible if under level 50).
The orator has higher success rates with better magic, and invite/mimic darlavon can be gamebreakers as they're instant and can make someone permanently join or a group sleep (which is the same tileset as hallowed bolt/lightning stab, more reason just to use northswain's strike for death and divine ruination for damage/confusion). Darlavon is also the guy in the long winded tutorial where you gotta dig to learn the best mechanics like JP Spillover and will fall asleep 😴.
You can even have an arithmetician cast faith on all the enemies and use that to make them weaker vs magic (though you'll have to see each battle animation and use atheism for Marach). The orator can lower bravery for easier theft and lessen reaction chances.
I am glad I have to update my review of this game as a challenge creator, and did a Mindflayer vid afterwards.
