FFTA Speed Run Part V: Jagd Hunt, The Bounty & Golden Clock
When I fought Adrammelech, I found one thing suspicious. Though I entered Montblanc on the field, he was 11 levels below the boss, meaning he was far from inflicting more than one damage per spell casting - and I imagine he wouldn't be too effective against other enemies either. It all started when I didn't put him into my party for the Ultima Crystals mission and since then he'd been lagging behind. He's the only clan member, besides the hero, whom you can't fire so in order to have a better unit replace the poor moogle mage I had to do it yet again... Kill Monty in a Jagd.
In Jagd Hunt, our objective was to have Montblanc killed by the enemies while the rest of the team finishes the game alive. For that, I made sure everyone has the Item command set as secondary so that the right members are alive. But that wasn't the main difficulty.
Enemies on the field are spread around and it's hard to finish the battle quickly. Most attempts clocked 16 minutes and beyond and I could barely beat the 10 minute record. The thing to know here is that the Blue Mage is immune to petrification and can cast Mighty Guard on other units, so he should be taken down with physical attacks, whereas the toughskin beast has great defences and HP and is the best candidate for Assassin's Rockseal.
A lot depends on how many (and which) characters Chroma Gem puts to sleep, because they all evade attacks too well, especially the Ninja with Double Sword.
The end of the battle was bad but still, I couldn't beat this time.
After Jagd Hunt, I ran around the map for a dozen days until it was the month to hire Bangaa. I got a Bishop who can be taught the Break spell via the Snake Staff. Though he's not as fast as the Assassin and is really useless when Break can't be exploited, his Break has good range and he has enough MP to cast it 3-4 times during a battle.
The Bounty was surprisingly tricky and, though this attempt wasn't terribly good, it was the best I could achieve.
After The Bounty, I finally got an Excalibur for Marche, so I changed him into a Paladin. Holy Enhancer + blade of that element + Beatdown = normally a KO against an enemy with average defence.
In Golden Clock there are only four enemies to take care of, but this mission gets surprisingly frustrating with Ritz and Shara's AI. Those girls will do anything to piss you off, and their list of worthless activities now includes merciless attacking of the petrified enemies when there are other ones standing right besides them just waiting to be hit.
Overall, this was a frustrating segment and I'm glad it's over. It can be argued that a Bishop could've been hired earlier, but then I would have an extra useless unit in the Adrammelech fight in addition to other battles.
