Here's another one I had to skip back in the days, since it's simply not possible to survive Ultimate Beam without materia. With max Spirit, however, it's a little easier, but it still requires Sadness, MBarrier and one Hero Drink.

Ground battle:

Weapon: Leather Glove (doesn't matter)
Armor: Ziedrich
Accessory: Protect Ring
Other: 255 Vitality and Spirit.

In any ground battle except for the first one at Mideel, he can use his three attacks in a random order. If he uses Ultimate Beam before you're prepared for it, you will die. However, he might not use it at all. Some times, he uses only the physical attack and Quake2 before he flees, in which case you don't even have to heal. And yes, he will flee. Usually after two or three turns.


Final showdown:

Weapon: Premium Heart
Armor: Bolt Armlet
Accessory: Protect Ring
Other: Still 255 Vitality and Spirit.

In this battle, he only uses an unnamed lightning elemental attack and Ultimate Beam. Just like the Carry Armor battle, it's pretty much just a matter of using four Hero Drinks to render him completely harmless, and then kick the living shit out of him. This one isn't very luck reliant, though. As long as he doesn't open the battle with Ultimate Beam, you should be home safe. Still, not a very good battle, but there's really not much you can do.
