A seemingly doomed Byzantine army stands outside of the gates of Saint George castle in southern Greece, facing down an Achaean army almost twice their size and many times over their quality. All seems lost, but the battlefield is rough and the Latin warriors in the Achaean army are impetuous and eager to gain glory. Faced with this onslaught, the Byzantine commander hatches a wily scheme to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It begins with a bribe of the garrison and ends with a chaotic brawl atop a small, forested mound out in the middle of a Greek wilderness...

This one took me a few tries to get right. At first I thought I was just being careless but it is easy to underestimate just how horrifyingly powerful the Achaean army is and how small and fragile your forces are in comparison. The knights will crush anything they face outright, and your lancers are both outnumbered and surprisingly puny when confronting anything that isn't defenceless bowmen in the open plains. The infantry battle is equally lopsided with high quality defensive spears crashing into your poorly prepared garrison troops.

You have to prepare the ground carefully here. Move back at the start of the battle to get your troops up the hill and your archers and irregular foot ensconced safely in the forests in the middle of the field. If you try to move forward instead the enemy knights will be upon you in moments. Pull the cavalry back and keep fleeing backwards until you're forced to turn and fight. Hopefully this will have messed up the enemy formation enough that you can pick them off in detail. Pick off any easy targets you can and use every trick in the book to slow the most dangerous enemy units down and you should slowly turn the tide of the battle. You'll need a bit of luck here however simply because the enemy army is so massive and dangerous.
