https://www.patreon.com/ulillillia --- Aeons, or FF10's summons, get stat gains through 3 different methods. Early on, it's the number of battles in which the battle ends with Yuna in the active party. The first boost comes after 60 battles. From there, it's every 30 battles for the next 8 boosts until 300 total. After that, it's every 60 battles until 600 where method 1 stops providing growth.
The second method is through raising Yuna's stats from activating nodes on the sphere grid. In general, activating a magic defense +3 node will cause magic defense for all aeons to grow a lot. All other stats also grow, but it's very slight. Each point on an unrelated stat adds about 12 HP to Bahamut's maximum. Activating an HP node, however, will increase max HP significantly. However, this, oddly, stops taking effect beyond 9999, even with break HP limit. Ability nodes do not affect the stats at all. The sphere grid only goes so far though.
That's where the third method comes in. This is where the countless supply of the 3 main common spheres comes in. The endless supply of power spheres, mana spheres, and speed spheres that almost every enemy drops can get put to use raising aeon stats. You could go wandering around in an area like Bikanel and get a mountain of mana spheres, but the best and fastest way involves Kottos. Kottos becomes available after capturing fiends in Mi-ihen Highroad. With just the default sphere grid clearing, having activated every node there is, Kottos will do about 5000 damage to a character. Maxing defense at 255 cuts that to about 630ish and makes this much faster. My setup has Tidus with auto-haste (I'm in the process of building finalized equipment) and first strike, Wakka (I'm using him only because I'm after getting sphere levels) has both first strike and initiative (the latter prevents ambushes), and the other I'm working on something else entirely.
At the start, I feed Kottos a power distiller. This forces that enemy to drop only power spheres, regardless, since I want to raise Bahamut's max HP. Kottos will counter that, hitting the character who did that. The other character uses entrust to transfer their overdrive (from victory mode) to Tidus (with slayer mode) to allow Tidus to strike with slice and dice. I've maxed strength out at 255 and got luck to 140ish so 6 sets of 99999s is inevitable which is all that's needed to defeat it. You'll get either 40 or 2 power spheres. If it's just 2, that would've been the dark matter drop. Chimerageist is the easiest and earliest and fastest way to get dark matter anyway. Needing 61 power spheres to add 100 more HP to Bahamut's maximum, that's generally 2 rounds of Kottos to get a +100, followed by 1 round for the next +100. If I get a preemptive strike, I have Rikku, my other character, heal as needed.
