Zeromus has a variety of attacks, but the one to really watch out for is Big Bang, which can take about 2000+ HP off from all characters each. There might be a time where he will cast it more than once in a row, in which case you're pretty much screwed. He can also use Black Hole, which negates any positive status effects your team has.

Being the supposedly final boss and all, he also has counterattacks, mostly against the stuff that Rydia has. You can use Black Magic, but I prefer to use Mega Flare. Be warned, though, because Zeromus will counter with either Flare or Bio. If you use Holy on him, he will counter with Whirl, which is a Tornado-type spell.

Lastly, once his HP gets low, he MIGHT cast Meteor; a deadly spell when it hits everyone. There's also a chance that it misses everyone.

Here's a short summary of what each character should be doing:

Kain - Jump. That's all you have to do with Kain, because it deals more damage than his normal attacks. Keep him on the ground if he needs healing.

Cecil - Attack. Don't bother healing because Rosa is much better at it, or any other White Mage.

Rydia - Summon Bahamut. I find this to be the most effective way to deal damage with her. Like I said, beware of the counterattacks.

Rosa - Curaja, every round. Don't worry about her MP.

Cid - Attack. What else?

Edge - Throw whatever throwable items you have in your inventory. After that, attack as usual.

Edward - Attack or have him on Hi-Potion duty.

Palom - Palom can't summon like Rydia, so you have to use a powerful Black Magic spells.

Porom - Curaja, every round. If you have both Rosa AND Porom along, this will be a cakewalk.

Yang - Power. Need I say more?

Zeromus is supposedly the final boss of Final Fantasy IV, but not in the Advance version. After you've beaten the game, you can go into the Lunar Ruins and face even stronger monsters in there. You can get much better equipment, and... after you've done all of the Lunar Ruins, the true final boss awaits.
