PREVIOUSLY:
After getting shot down by the queen's heavy artilleries, the airship crash-landed on a forest that lies underneath the Mist south of the kingdom, everyone survived the fall, but Garnet and Vivi landed far from the others. Steiner went out looking for them, and Zidane quickly followed. They soon came up against plant monsters that caged both the princess and Vivi, though the duo was able to save Vivi, the dying monster released a sporous substance that knocked out both Vivi and Steiner, while the other one caging the princess took advantage of the situation and ran off.

Zidane carried the two unconscious ones, and returned to the Prima Vista, with the help of Blank's special medicine, they were able to rid the virus from their bodies. Zidane decided that he will bring along the two to go look for the princess, even if it meant getting dismissed from Tantalus. Traversing their way inside, they were able to reach the heart of the forest, where Garnet and a gigantic plant monster resided. Blank, who was ordered by Baku to tail the trio, also provided assistance in defeating the carnivorous flora.

They gave the princess the cure for the plant virus and started making their way out of the forest, but the escape roused the forest made sentient by the Mist and began petrifying itself, as Zidane was about to get caught by one of the bug monsters, Blank pushed him aside and got caught in his place. Zidane tried going back to save him, but Blank urged him to keep running, and threw him a map of the continent in the process. After barely escaping the Evil Forest, the group cannot do anything but to watch the forest get petrified whole, along with their friend inside.
