PREVIOUSLY:
Zidane, Garnet, Vivi and Steiner have finally reached Lindblum, initially doubted because of their unkempt appearances, the party earned an audience with the regent by showing the princess' Falcon Claw, a symbol of royalty. Upon entering the royal chamber, they were surprised by an oglop on the throne, Dagger recognized the familiar looking moustache on the oglop, and learned that it was the regent of Lindblum himself, Cid Fabool, who was cursed by his absconded wife, hence, his present state.

While the others explored the kingdom, the princess stayed behind to discuss matters regarding the outlandish behavior of her mother with the regent. The regent revealed that they had actually noticed the change in Queen Brahne's behavior recently, Cid feared that if they were to mobilize against Alexandria, they might be suspected of trying to start a war, thus, hiring Tantalus to do the task for them. After the conversation, the princess heads back to her quarters, and was prohibited from going out of the castle.

In the kingdom's industrial district, Zidane dined in a pub, where he met an old friend named Freya, who was looking to join the Festival of the Hunt, an annual competition hosted by Lindblum where fighters compete to win various rare prizes, Zidane then went back to the castle to look for the princess. After agreeing on a date with Zidane if he wins the competition, Dagger asked for some sleeping weed, explaining that she was having a hard time sleeping recently.

As the festival progressed, Queen Brahne mobilized their troops, and advanced towards Burmecia, home of Freya, who aided Zidane in the final moments of the competition. As the awards were being handed out, a severely injured Burmecian soldier hobbled his way inside the regent's quarters, reporting the attacks by Alexandria's "pointed hat" soldiers before succumbing to his wounds. Freya instantly volunteered to head there, Zidane then convinced the Burmecian to allow him to accompany her on the trip, while Vivi also joined them to learn more about the Black Mages, the princess also wishes to join but Zidane refused, as it was too dangerous for a high figure like her to be conducting such dangerous expedition.

In retaliation, during the festival feast, Dagger tampered with everyone's food and slipped in some of the sleeping weeds she got earlier from Zidane, as she had decided to take matters into her own hands and heads off with Steiner to Alexandria to talk some sense into Queen Brahne. After a while, everyone wakes up with the effects of the weed gone, thinking that the princess might be on her way to Burmecia, they will to cross Gizamaluke's Grotto to reach Burmecia as soon as possible.
