Final Fantasy VII - Ch. 11 - Mt. Corel
Our pursuit of Sephiroth continues! Following our successful infiltration of a Shinra parade in Junon, we stowed away on a Shinra cargo ship. There, we finally ran into the man himself! After some quick R&R in Costa Del Sol, we were back on the trail.
After crossing a conspicuous mountail trail, we now arrive at Mt. Corel. What's gonna happen next?
CHAPTER 11 - MT. COREL
Nice quick, easy chapter here. We'll enter Mt. Corel. Some rando will be perched up near the entrance and says Sephiroth passed through. In the next screen, you'll pass through the outside of the Mako Reactor. Once you pass that, there'll be a series of bridges that look like rollercoaster tracks.
Occasionally, you'll be prompted that a section of the bridge you're standing on is giving way. You can press O to jump out of the way, or wait until the next screen. As you're falling, you can press left or right while tapping O. When you finish falling, you'll either be on the left, right or center. There's items on the left and right side.
The left is the 'Wizard Staff' weapon for Aeris and the right is a 'Star Pendant'. At the end of this screen, there will either be a path up or a path down. If you take the path down, you'll run into the rest of your party at a dead-end. The draw bridge is up and you can't proceed until it's lowered. You'll be shown a shack up ahead on the other side and told to go lower the draw bridge there.
Backtrack a bit and take the path that goes up. Now you'll be on the path that leads to the shack. Lower the draw bridge, then climb the wall here to stumble upon a bird's nest. The nest contains a treasure. If you grab it, you'll have to fight a 'Cockatolis'. But in exchange, you'll get 10 Phoenix Downs. Neat!
Backtrack again and take the path that goes down again. You can now cross the draw bridge. Note the section of the path that divides and leads to the beach. You can find a hidden cave here with an unemployed Mt. Corel mine worker. There's a 'Power Source', 'Mind Source' and a 'Tent' here. Go back to where the path divides and take the path that continues right.
Now we'll cross a very long rope bridge. This type of thing certainly doesn't age well, lol. When you reach the end, you'll now be in what's left of the town of Corel. This is Barret's home town. It was known for its coal mining, but then the Shinra offered to build a Mako Reactor here.
Not long after, the Shinra came and wiped everyone out based on some flimsy pretense, including Barret's wife. Everyone blamed Barret due to his support for the Mako Reactor, but it wasn't really his fault.
Anyway, explore what's left of the town. Buy items and gear if you need to. But if you've been following my stealing recommendations, you should find nothing of value here, equipment-wise. Word around town is that Sephiroth took the ropeway to the 'Gold Saucer', a large mega-amusement park located nearby.
I can't really picture Sephiroth there, but I guess we'll find out next time. Join us next time for 'Ch. 12 - The Gold Saucer'.
