This is another easy chapter, but I stilll struggled with the best way to present it. I made a little segment starting at about 06:25, which I'm calling '8-Bit Walkthrough Recommends'. It includes quick info on Enemy Skills in the Grasslands area near the Chocobo Stables.

However, I missed including an Enemy Skill and a some stealable gear from inside the mine itself. Oh well, let's just cover everything!

CHAPTER 8 - MYTHRIL MINE

We're continuing our pursuit of Sephiroth. Cloud has unanswered questions about his past and we still don't know what he's up to. Why did he break into Shinra, kill everyone and steal Jenova? We just have to keep following his trail and hopefully we'll find out.

Anyway, someone in Kalm will mention that they saw a man with a black coat and large sword head towards the Grassland area nearby. Locate the only other nearby dot on the map and head there. This is the 'Chocobo Stables'. Talk to everyone more than once and eventually you'll find out that Sephiroth passed through here and headed through the nearby marshes.

The marshes are the pale-green area that goes along the nearby mountains. A large snake called the 'Midgar Zolom' patrols the marshes. You can actually see it on the world map. If you try to cross the marshes on foot, you will most likely be caught by the MZ and have to face it in battle.

Unless you've done some considerable grinding, there is no way you can beat it. So the only way to cross is to ride a Chocobo. Unfortunatley you can't buy one, but they'll sell you the 'Chocobo Lure' Materia to catch one. You'll need to buy some greens as well.

Now before proceeding, you'll want to grab a few things. Speak to the Chocobo near the entrance and select 'Wark' as the option. The Chocobos will dance for you and you'll gain the 'Chocobo/Mog' summon materia.

Next, we'll find a monster that looks like a squirrel called a 'Mu'. Once you find one, there is a one-in-fourteen chance it will use a move called 'L4 Suicide'. If the target has a level that is a multiple of '4', it will do significant damage and inflict 'tiny' status. It's a good enemy skill to learn.

Afterwards, equip the Chocobo Lure materia and make sure you have a 'Mimett' or 'Sylkis' green. Locate a Chocobo that is Level 16. Level 16 Chocobos will be flanked by two of the same monster, or you can use Sense materia to be sure.

Feed it one of the greens and then use 'L4 Suicide'. It will respond with 'Chocobuckle' another useful Enemy Skill. It's damage is determined by the number of times you've run away from battle. So now, don't feel bad about running away!

Ok, now we can catch actually catch a Chocobo. Find any Chocobo and feed it cheap old Gysahl Greens and pick off the other monsters while its distracted. Now we can cross the marsh. It's a quick ride, which makes all the effort seem a little meaningless lol. Approach the cave on the other side of the marsh. Before you reach it, you'll see a quick scene.

You'll come across a Midgar Zolom that has been impaled by a large pointy stick. It's hinted this was done by Sephiroth. Continue into the cave. You can learn Enemy Skill 'Flamethrower' from the 'Ark Dragon' here. Additionally, you can steal a 'Grand Glove' for Tifa from a 'Madouge'. You can use 'L4 Suicide' to weaken them.

After you enter, go right to find an ether and tent. Cilmb the vine here to find a 'Long Range' materia. Return and head down to find a 'Mind Source'. Go left and watch the scene with the Turks. Go up from here to find an Elixir and Hi-Potion. Return to the previous screen, climb the vine to reach the exit where Tseng was.

Our goal is to head to Junon. However there are two optional sidequests available. The first one involves a battle at Fort Condor, for which you'll receive the 'Magic Comb', a weapon for Red XIII. I'm going to skip this, as you can buy a better weapon for Red once we get to Junon.

The other sidequest is to recruit Yuffie. Supposedly, once you exit the Mythril Mine, you're free to recruit Yuffie. She will appear in a random battle while in the forest. She will be labeled 'Mystery Ninja'. Defeat her and then choose the following options in the next scene:

1) Not interested
2) ...petrified
3) Wait a second!
4) ...That's right
5) ...Let's hurry on

It's important that you do not do anything that causes the screen to change, including opening the menu or using the save point here. If you do that exactly, Yuffie will join you!

Lastly, before we head to Junon, you can steal a 'Boomerang' for Yuffie from a blue and purple bird-like monster called 'Formula'. Afterwards, head toward the nearby dot to Junon.

That's all for now! Join us next time for 'Ch. 9 - Junon Harbor'.
