Final Fantasy VII (Lowest Turn Count) Ep. 2 - Guard Scorpion
12I made a handy spread sheet to track how much damage I've done vs how much HP the boss has left. I tested a few different damage paths and this one was the best. With average Limit break damage, you can kill Guard Scorpion is 7 limit breaks. (115 damage average for both cloud and barret.) Or you could win in 10 Bolt spells. (85 damage average). Also I'm sure someone is going to ask so let me explain the Tail phase. Yes I can fill my limits faster by attacking while the tail is up, however Guard Scorpion takes half damage while the tail is up, so limits will do around 60 and bolt spells around 40. So it's basically a wasted turn. Mathmatically it doesn't work.
The method that uses only limit breaks looks enticing, however you actually need an extra 2 turns of healing with potions. You start the battle with full HP and limits already full. Then if you're lucky and get the right attacks (2 tails,1 rifle) you can fill limits twice without healing, and you need that to happen on both characters. Then you use 2 potions on one of them to get them one more limit break. Note that 6 average limits and 1 average Bolt spell is about 25 damage shy of winning. It's also not worth going for because you likely lose out on exp for one of the characters.
The 10 Bolt method is obviously worse. No need to explain really.
My winning method is done in 8 turns, requires no healing but cuts it really close. It uses only 4 limit breaks and 4 Bolt spells. My damage was as follows. 113, 112, 86, 88, 88, 86, 113, 117. For those with a calculator or good math skills, you will see I needed a 114 or higher to win with the final attack. I lucked out and my one good damage roll was the final one. All of my spells had high damage rolls so I got a bit lucky, had they been average, I would have been 1 or 2 damage short.
