Final Fantasy X (Lowest Turn Count) Ep. 11 - Chocobo Eater
13The first random battle you get into is a forced encounter that you have to finish. It's a shame, but it costs 2 turns to explain how Auron works.
There's a Summon battle with Belgamine, but you can just skip it. Neither the prize for winning or losing are important. And you can't get the Summoner's Soul until later.
Chocobo Eater is an interesting fight. There are 3 different paths I can take. I can either, Push him off a cliff. Get pushed off a Cliff or Defeat it.
Pushing Him off a Cliff is out of the question for me right now. While not Quite a No sphere grid run, this is pretty close to one, so my damage output isn't that great outside of Aeon Overdrives.
The next option, getting pushed off the cliff seems like the best option. For those familiar with the FFX speedrun, they know that you cast Haste on the Chocobo Eater and just defend until you're pushed off. It takes the speedrun 12 turns to get pushed off the cliff. I don't have haste, so it actually takes me 14 turns to get pushed off. This isn't bad, but I still feel like I can do better.
The third option, defeat the chocobo eater. This seems like the worst option because he has 10,000 HP and I'm not very strong. But... We prepared for this. Earlier in Luca I bought the Rulebreaker. This gives Wakka Poisontouch. Against Chocobo Eater, poison ticks for 500 damage during each of his turns. This is a good start. I can even inflict poison when using Darkstrike. This makes his attacks miss pretty often. But we still need to save more turns. This is where we swap in Yuna. Chocobo Eater is weak to Fire and we have Ifrit now. Grand summon Ifrit and immediately use his over drive. This deals pretty close to 1/4 of his HP. Right after using Ifrit's overdrive, Chocobo Eater get's 3 turns immediately. That's a free 1500 damage. and with some luck that it's attacks miss, I get my my overdrive refilled. So that's another big damage hit followed by 1500 free poison damage. I have to spend a couple in between turns, but I get a 4rd overdrive and get the over kill. For a total of 6 turns!
Post Update: This episode will receive an update video after the challenge completes. I made a discovery that will be explained in the next episode that saves me a lot of turns in this fight and some of the earlier fights.
