7The first random battle in this area is a Kimahri tutorial. We have to use Lancet once to learn an overdrive for him. The nice part is that it also fill the overdrive. Time save! After that we can just flee with everyone. After this i spend time farming ambushes to fill overdrives. I'm thankful for 4x speed up and the ability to increase encounter rate.
I was initially under the assumption that I had to kill the tentacles first. So I used Cheer with Tidus so I could 1 shot one of them with Tidus' overdrive and then 2 shot the other with Kimahri and Wakka. From there I used lulu's over drive only to finish off with Valefor. This took me 10 turns, but I wanted to try some other things before i called it good and moved on.
For some reason I overlooked that Valefor's overdrive could hit all 3 targets. I just assumed they were in different rows or something. After I figured that out, I started the fight with Yuna out of the party and then swapped her in. I grand Summon Valefor and use Energy Blast. This kills both tentacles and opens up the the main body. From there I use Fire a few times before i reach a critical decision. Do I use another Overdrive to win the fight in 5 turns? Or do I save the overdrive for Chocobo Eater, so I can do it twice.
After some careful thought, I decided to just use it and save the turn. I have other ideas for Chocobo Eater. (But maybe they're not good ones)
As for Lord Ochu. It's an optional fight. You can walk around it.
