Final Fantasy X (Lowest Turn Count) Ep. 9 - Luca and Oblitzerator
9After getting to Luca I open all fo the chests. Gil is pretty hard to come by and I've got to make important decisions. There are 2 particular weapons I'm interested in. Stunning Steel and Rulebreaker. Stunning Steel gives slow strike which gives the enemy fewer turns. This is good in that I spend less turns having to heal in long battles. Rulebreaker is a weapon for wakka that gives Poisontouch. This will save me turns having to do damage. I don't have enough for both so I sold 2 ethers 1 remedy and 1 hi-potion to make up the difference.
Oaka also has a thunder spear and after some testing I decided I needed it for this section too. So I sold some Equipment that I hope I wont need. (Blue Ring and a Sword with Darktouch)
There are 3 forced battles with Machina before the boss. But I can run back to the save point in between each one, so I don't feel as bad. My Goal is to win the first 2 in 4 turns each. This requires a critical hit so I had to reset a lot. For the 3rd fight I have to fight 3 waves of the Machina. This is where I spend all of my overdrives. By using Lulu's overdrive I'm able to kill 2 in 1 turn. I initially wasn't using it here and saving it for the boss fight. However using it now saves 1 turn, bringing the 3rd fight down to 11 turns.
I wouldn't have done that, however I learned later that after doing the 3 forced fights, it unlocks random battles with more machina, allowing me to refill my overdrives. I don't even need to farm only ambushes either because sometimes the machina just get the first turns anyway! I actually had to redo all of Luca because of this new information.
Oblitzerator has some built in mechanics to save time. It's better to not damage it before using the crane because it will counter attack any attackers. I have Tidus use Cheer since his damage is lowest. Kimahri's turn doesn't matter, so I just defend. Lulu uses Thunder Fury to get the crane going in 1 turn. Tidus uses the Crane (which deals a % of the enemies max HP) and then Kimahri finishes it off with a Jump. The Jump DOES need to get a decent damage roll.
Now the shitty party. I had to redo this fight 49 times. This is because I needed the Thunder ball to drop for wakka so I can save turns next section.
