Previously, Vaan joined forces with Penelo, explored the Giza Plains, and made a Sunstone. Now, he can take the Sunstone to Old Dalan and continue the story. Before that, the party will take care of a couple of hunts.

The party resumes in the Southgate zone in Rabanastre. Vaan picks up the license +70 HP for 30 LP. Penelo picks up a Magick Lore license for 30 LP.

Note that when you get close to Old Dalan's place, Penelo will leave the party for awhile. So if you want her help with the hunts, do them before returning to Lowtown.

In the Sandsea, the party checks the notice board (time 1:56). They read Bill No. 1 for Thextera, a Rank I mark.

The petitioner is Gatsly in the Sandsea (time 2:20). They accept the hunt "Wolf in the Waste". Thextera is located in the Galtea Downs, the first zone in the Dalmasca Westersand.

In the Southern Plaza, they talk to the Cartographers' Guild Moogle (time 4:05). They pick up the Dalmasca Westersand map for 550 gil.

The party takes the gate from the Southern Plaza to Westgate (time 4:39). The entrance to Dalmasca's aerodrome is located here, but it is off-limits for now.

The party heads west to the Dalmasca Westersand (time 5:56). After a brief establishing scene, the party arrives on the Galtea Downs just outside the city. They start by exploring the zone and taking out the local emeies.

In the southeast of the Galtea Downs, they find Thextera (time 10:18). Thextera is not all that difficult. Penelo's Fire spell seems to do well. Note that Thextera can call one or more Wolves to help in the battle.

The party soon defeats Thextera (time 11:38). Thextera vanquished! Now, they must return to Gatsly.

The party returns to Rabanastre (time 13:30).

In the Sandsea, they report to Gatsly (time 14:42). "Wolf in the Waste" complete! The reward is 500 gil, a Headguard, and a Teleport Stone. Gatsly invites the party to visit him at his shop in Muthru Bazaar.

The party has now achieved the next Clan Rank, Hedge Knight. Vaan has now appeared in the Sky Pirate's Den as an award for successfully Stealing over 50 times. The associated title is Master Thief.

The party checks the notice board again (time 15:50). They read Bill No. 2 for the Flowering Cactoid, a Rank I mark. The petitioner is Dantro in the Outpost in the Dalmasca Estersand.

The party talks to Montblanc in the Clan Hall (time 17:09). For achieving the rank of Hedge Knight, he rewards them with 2 Warp Motes and 2 Teleport Stones.

Then, in the Muthru Bazaar, they talk to Gatsly again (time 18:06). This makes a new item appear under the Bazaar goods option in any shop. It is the Forgotten Grimoire for 18,000 gil. This is the Hunter's Monograph, which causes beasts and avions to drop new items.

The party visits the Clan Provisioner (time 18:22). After salivating over the Forgotten Grimoire that is too expensive for them, they sell off some loot for gil. Selling 1 Earth Stone and 2 Wolf Pelts makes the Unassuming Surcoat appear in the Bazaar. The party buys the Unassuming Surcoat for 100 gil. They acquire a set of Chromed Leathers.

Vaan picks up the Light Armor 2 license for 15 LP (time 19:17). He can now equip the Headguard and Chromed Leathers he has acquired.

At the Clan Rank of Hedge Knight, the Green Magick spell Oil now appears in the Clan Provisioner's inventory for 800 gil. For now, the party picks up the Green Magick spell Decoy for 2,000 gil.

In the Eastgate zone, the party exits to the Stepping in the Dalmasca Estersand (time 21:25).

They go directly to the Outpost (time 22:03).

In the Outpost, they talk to Dantro (time 22:15). They agree to the hunt "Dalmasca's Desert Bloom". The mark is the Flowering Cactoid in the Yardang Labyrinth zone.

The party exits northeast to the Yardang Labyrinth (time 24:10). They start by exploring this zone.

Near the northeastern exit, a treasure coffer along the western wall contains the Black Magick spell Silence (time 30:06). All right! Penelo picks up the Black Magick 3 license for 25 LP. This allows her to cast Silence.

The northeastern exit leads to the Nalbina Fortress area, where the party can find the Nalbina Crystal.

Vaan reaches Level 5 (time 33:18).
