Previously, we wrapped up Episode Prompto. Now, we will start on Episode Ignis.

After some opening scenes, Episode Ignis starts off just after the Trial of Leviathan in Chapter 9 of the main game. The episode's Chapter 1: Callings begins. When the action begins, there are tutorials on assigning elemental properties to Ignis's spelldaggers. Their current elemental affinity affects on how he attacks in battle. The player earns the trophy "Hidden Power" for defeating ten enemies with the spelldaggers. After the tutorial battle, Ignis will get a handy hookshot.

Afterwards, Imperial forces will take control of various districts in Altissia. Ignis can liberate them from Imperial control while making his way to the story target. That is one good reason to explore the city. Another reason is to collect treasures. As in the main game, certain treasures can be sold for gil to buy restoratives. There are rest areas at the supply stations throughout the city. There are notes from friends at some of these supply stations.

After retaking the Arcaleo District, Ignis is prompted to go to the eastern bridge.

After retaking the Tigiano District, he attempts to cross the eastern bridge, but it does not work out as he had hoped. He catches sight of a couple of familiar Imperials. Afterwards, he will have to defeat more Imperials in Tigiano District. There will be a couple of waves of soldiers and Magitek armors.

After this event, a boat will become available at the northern docks. However, some of the districts in the west will fall, and it will behoove Ignis to liberate them.

Ignis rests at the Arcaleo District rest area. Next time, he will continue liberating the city before taking the boat.
