Previously, after wrapping up the currently available objectives in Dawnstar, Davilas went to Markarth. After killing Nimhe, a spider in the Nchuand-Zel Excavation Site, he did the quest "The Lost Expedition" and discovered the fate of an expedition in Nchuand-Zel. Now, he will do one of the Daedric quests available in Markarth.

After resuming, Davilas heads home to Whiterun and puts some stuff away. Then, he fast-travels back to Markarth.

In the Silver-Blood Inn, Davilas asks the innkeeper, Kleppr, about the rumors in town. Kleppr issues a few objectives: "Speak to the witchhunter about the abandoned house", "Speak to Degaine", and "Speak to Verulus about the Hall of the Dead".

First, for the witchhunter objective, Davilas approaches Vigilant Tyranus outside the Abandoned House north of the inn. Davilas offers Tyranus his help in investigating the house. This starts the Daedric quest "The House of Horrors".

They enter and investigate the house. Some strange things happen as they investigate. Then, when Davilas examines a locked door downstairs, Tyranus they need to get help. Then, a Daedric Lord speaks to Davilas. There is no choice but to kill Tyranus. Afterwards, the Daedric Lord invites Davilas to come downstairs and claim his reward.

At an altar in the basement, Davilas examines the Rusty Mace. However, the Daedric Lord Molag Bal will not let him take it so easily. Molag wants to punish the priest of Boethiah that has been "defiling" his altar. This priest has been captured and imprisoned by Forsworn in Deepwood Redoubt.

Deepwood Redoubt is northeast of Markarth andwest of Solitude. The entrance to Deepwood Redoubt is along the northern side of the mountain ridge. To get there easily, Davilas fast-travels to Lost Echo Cave and rides southwest.

Along the way, Davilas discovers Volskygge, a Nord ruin.

When Davilas finds Deepwood Redoubt, he finds some Forsworn keeping watch outside. Then, he enters and progresses through the Nord ruin Deepwood Redoubt. More Forsworn await within, and there are also plenty of traps. There is a high-level door blocking the way forward, but in case you don't want to pick it open, a Forsworn in the bedroom holds the Deepwood Redoubt Key.

At the top of the redoubt, Davilas heads outside to Deepwood Vale. Plenty of Forsworn guard the fortification across the bridge to the east. Odahviing may be of help if you have completed the main story. There is another Nordic ruin, Hag's End, at the eastern end of this valley.

After clearing out the Forsworn, Davilas approaches the leader's tent and finds Logrolf the Willful tied up. For someone who has just been rescued, he does not sound very appreciative. Davilas can persuade, bribe, or intimidate him. Afterwards, Logrolf will head off to the Abandoned House in Markarth.

Then, Davilas explores Hag's End while he is here. As the name implies, there are witches and a Hagraven to take out in this ruin. The pesky Hagraven likes to warp around.

After some fun at lockpicking, Davilas reaches Level 44 and increases his Magicka. He already has a perk point, which he uses to get the second level of "Recovery" under Restoration. Now, his Magicka will regenerate 50% faster. Under Destruction, he picks up the first level of "Augmented Frost". His Frost spells will now do 25% more damage.

At the top level, Davilas finds a Word Wall. He learns "Sand", the second word of the shout "Slow Time".

Out the upstairs exit, Davilas can now defeat the Hagraven that has been pestering him throughout the ruin. The Hag's End Key will be on her corpse; I imagine that opens the ruin's high-level doors. The boss chest is also in this area.

Davilas fast-travels back to Markarth. He finds Logrolf the Willful at the Abandoned House. He follows Logrolf downstairs. Molag gives Davilas the Rusty Mace, which auto-equips. Davilas must beat Logrolf with the mace. Eventually, Logrolf will submit. Afterwards, Davilas must deliver the killing blow. Then, Molag bestows upon Davilas the Mace of Molag Bal. Pretty good weapon; it damages Stamina and Magicka and can trap a target's soul in a soul gem. "The House of Horrors" complete! Davilas is also free to make use of the Abandoned House now.

Next time, Davilas will work on the other Daedric quest in Markarth.
