Previously, Davilas did the Daedric quest "Pieces of the Past" starting in Dawnstar and acquired Mehrunes' Razor. Now, he will wrap up the available objectives in Dawnstar before heading off to Markarth, the last major city he has left to explore in Skyrim.

After resuming, Davilas visits the White Hall, the Jarl's longhouse in Dawnstar, and visits Jarl Skald. When Davilas says he's looking for work, Skald issues the objective "Kill the giant in Tumble Arch Pass". Even though he does not say what said giant has done to cause trouble. Tumble Arch Pass is in the southern part of the Pale.

The alchemist at the Mortar and Pestle, Frida, is also supposed to have an objective, but she is not issuing it at present. I will have to check back later.

To get to Tumble Arch Pass, Davilas fast-travels to Silverdrift Lair and then rides southeast. At Tumble Arch Pass, he takes down the Giant without much trouble. When the Giant is dead, Davilas must "Return to Skald".

Davilas fast-travels back to Dawnstar. He reports the Giant's death to Jarl Skald. Skald rewards him with a decent amount of money. When asked what else he needs, Skald issues the objective to become Thane of the Pale: "Assist the people of the Pale (x/3)". Davilas can also now talk to Skald to purchase a plot of land to build a house, as in Falkreath or Morthal.

Afterwards, Davilas fast-travels to Understone Keep, the Jarl's palace in Markarth. He already has an objective from Calcelmo, the court wizard: "Kill Nimhe inside Nchuand-Zel". Nimhe is a big spider stymieing efforts to explore Nchuand-Zel, a dwarven ruin just beneath Understone Keep.

Inside Understone Keep, Davilas takes the door to the Nchuand-Zel Excavation Site. Past some lesser spiders, Davilas finds and kills Nimhe. After that, he can "Tell Calcelmo that Nimhe is dead".

However, up the stairs past Nimhe, Davilas finds the corpse of Alethius and Alethius's Notes. Examining the notes starts the quest "The Lost Expedition". Sounds like some unfortunate fools thought it would be a good idea to explore Nchuand-Zel. The first objective is to recover Stromm's journal.

Past Alethius, Davilas finds the entrance to Nchuand-Zel proper. Numerous Falmer lurk within, but the dwarven constructs are curiously inactive.

Across the bridge and to the left, Davilas enters the Nchuand-Zel Quarters. In the former living area in the southeast, he finds Stromm's Diary near the corpse of Stromm. After reading this, Davilas is prompted to recover the journals of Erj, Krag, and Staubs/Staubin.

In the northwest, Davilas finds an alternate exit back out to Nchuand-Zel. He can drop down to the ground level fairly safely.

In the west, Davilas finds an exit to the Nchuand-Zel Armory on the ground floor. Among some dormant dwarven guardians, he finds Erj's Notes by the body of Erj. Looks like the poor guys hopes have been dashed.

Upstairs in the northeast of the armory, Davilas finds an exit to the upper western walkway of Nchuand-Zel. In a sleeping area nearby, he finds Krag's Journal by the body of Krag.

In the northwest, along the upper walkway, Davilas finds the door to Nchuand-Zel Control. Here, his Sneak reaches skill level 100. The player earns the silver trophy "Skill Master" for getting a skill up to level 100.

Along the corridor, he finds Staubin's Diary by the body of Staubin. After recovering all the journals, Davilas will be prompted to re-activate Nchuand-Zel's automated defenses. He will begin encountering active dwarven constructs beyond Staubin's body.

Past a gate, Davilas operates the lever that reactivates Nchuand-Zel's defenses. Afterwards, he must find someone who knows about the expedition. Could this refer to Calcelmo?

When Davilas returns to Nchuand-Zel, the dwarven guardians have reactivated and are fighting the invading Falmer. Good stuff. Davilas makes his way out through the Nchuand-Zel Excavation Site.

Back in Understone Keep, he talks to Calcelmo. He first reports that he has killed Nimhe. Calcelmo rewards him with the Dwemer Museum Key. This concludes Calcelmo's objective to defeat Nimhe. Also, Davilas shows Calcelmo Staubin's expedition journal. Calcelmo rewards Davilas with some gold. "The Lost Expedition" complete!

Next time, Davilas will continue questing in Markarth.
