Final Fight - Atari ST (Full Playthrough / Let's Play)
Are you tired of politicians not getting stuck into dealing with crime, well take a look at the mayor in Metro city, he knows how to get it sorted.
This is Final Fight a conversion of the hit 1989 Capcom arcade game that was converted to the ST by US Gold in 1991. It's a 1 or 2 player side scrolling fighter where you control from one of three different fighters and clean up the town by beating up the thugs in your way.
The Atari ST is not 100% accurate to the original. A lot of the animations and cut scenes have disappeared, there's only one musical track that loops over and over, the throw move has gone, the third level 'bomb dropping' boss Rolento is absent and various bosses and enemies are lacking certain attacks - such as the first level boss, you won't see him sitting on the wall and whistling for help. It also seems that US Gold once again is unable to work out how smooth scrolling or allowing for both sound effects and music at the same time works on the ST.
We first got this game packaged with our new STE and at the time I hadn't played any version of Final Fight before and I enjoyed it very much. Despite its problems it still has some solid game play, with controls that work well with the joystick and good visuals for the ST. It's a disappointing conversion but that dosen't mean that it is a bad game and I do recommend that you play it. I have no doubt that a more talented bunch of developers with some more time and money could have included most of the missing features, the jerky scrolling and looping music to create a more authentic arcade experience.
