At a quick glance, Namco and Soft Machine's Final Lap Special would appear to be a lot like Final Lap 2000 but in color (even sharing a lot of the same music), but it's not. This is sorta what FL2000 should have been. It lacks a few things like an Options/Sound Test, but features color, more modes such as extra Mini-Games, a Garage where you can view various things and clear your data, a Versus Mode, Time Attack Mode, and two different cars to drive: Formula Cars and GT Cars. In addition, you have different cars with different stats and can purchase GT cars in the car shop using points. Formula and GT vehicles have their own race modes with different tracks and play styles.

The audio/visuals are a little better, but that's not saying a whole lot as they weren't particularly great in the first place (The photo-realistic car images are nice). This is a video of the game showing some stuff with Formula and GT cars. While Japan-Only, the game is English-Friendly. Enjoy.
