Fire and Ice - The Wintervale Saga - Episode 44
8Last time, the party had recovered from their short rest and continued onward towards the next Frost Barrier. However, they were interrupted by a member of the Brotherhood, Ser Charles, a mentor and father figure to Ren. He revealed that he wasn't particularly happy about the circumstances, but he felt bound by duty and other personal reasons to remain working for the Archbishop.
After a battle, Ser Charles shows them the way to the next frost barrier as he prepares to leave and cure himself of his poison, dealt by Kayli. He also reveals a little more about himself to the party, about being an Oathbreaker Paladin who had failed to revive Ren once away from the prying eyes of the remaining members of the Brotherhood. With his motivations still kept close to the chest, Ser Charles left the party to destroy the next Barrier.
Beneath the mountain, they found their target, as well as several Kenku guards. The Barrier conjured up an avatar to fight on it's behalf: A multi-armed Skeleton Guardian. Though after a difficult fight, the party emerged victorious and the Frost Barrier was destroyed, bringing the sunshine back to the southeast of Wintervale.
With two barriers down, the party was halfway to taking the fight to the Archbishop himself within Wintervale's walls. And that is where we begin...
