This YouTube series will involve the hardest difficulty setting after this initial video. The only way to see the prologue is by lowering the difficulty to this level, unfortunately. Some good news though, we will not have to sacrifice Gordin! I prefer other entries in Fire Emblem, but I hope my enthusiasm for the genre, will shine throughout these playthroughs I hope. The prologue gives us a better picture of the universe of the original Fire Emblem.
The narrative of the original game is extremely expansive for the time, although it, unfortunately, has relied on external media to tell the full tale. The progenitor hero of all Archanea Anri wielded the Falchion in order to defeat the primordial dragons of old. Marth's father Cornelius was betrayed by the king of Gra Jiol while afield against the dread warlock Gharnef. The personal sacrifice of Marth's sister Elice. A sacrifice with meaning as Marth is the only person capable of wielding the legendary blade Falchion, that provides humanity with any semblance of a chance of freeing itself from under the yoke of Gharnef and Medeus. Marth retreats to the island of Talys vowing revenge, and more importantly a call to freedom for the conquered continent. This simple story is a breeding ground for ideas, perhaps because it is so sparsely told.
The story of Marth has been completed through Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem's story. However, when will we learn more about the legendary hero Anri's full story. Arguably, Anri faced more fearsome armies of dragons in canon, and it would be interesting if each one ruled proto kingdoms of humans. I feel like it would be interesting if they had a similar role as the Nephilim in Christian mythology that would require tribute, including gold and princesses as dragons, are want to do. Marcelus brother to the unmarried Anri is the direct ancestor of Marth, and for all I care could be an avatar character with a script on rails rather than player choice. It is only a footnote but there is much primordial intrigue, epic battles, and even melodrama to cover in this storyline that has not been properly visited by series creator Kaga or current owner Intelligent Systems. The battles in these initial missions are not going to be that exciting, unfortunately.
The completionist in me felt it necessary to provide myself and the viewers with the authoritative storyline of Marth and his comrades. This is only a prologue and you can expect me to win even if I were to make clear blunders, even when it seemingly takes the training wheels off. My method of tactics are more varied in other series, but you will notice that I utilize tanks, chippers, and finishers. Tanks would be your physical defense units like the knight class, or paradoxically the mage class in terms of magic defense in some Fire Emblem games. Chippers apply chip damage setting up the coup de gras for other units, the best chippers include a mage, javelin wielding cavalier, and archer class. The finishers are those units that destroy an enemy unit, the best finishers are those units that can maneuver to the kill most likely a cavalier, pegasus knight, dracoknight or the exceptionally underrated mage knight. The trajectory of the series is that of a pure ironman mode showing both triumph and tragic loss.
The Fire Emblem series is uniquely oriented to provide a sense of victory and soul crushing defeat. It is true that you have extremely talented tools at your disposal in comparison to your enemies. However, the game takes on a new level of difficulty once you allow your units to pass on instead of going for that perfect run. You will find that your victories are all the more hard won and satisfying. As well as, the devastating losses of your version of Achille's Patroclus. That is why there is no other series like Fire Emblem. I have a few personal notes about this project because these are the first videos I ever recorded for YouTube, although this is the first time I have released them.
An old video series that I am finally migrating into YouTube and off my hard drive. After all of the videos have been migrated here, I will maintain the original copies of the playthrough in a zip folder. This is so I can upload the files onto other platforms and maintain the security of this production by placing it in multiple locations. I am more than happy to free up hard drive space because even the frontier of a computer tower is finite. I will be releasing these oldies with my more presentable new videos. I will, unfortunately, be unable to adapt my play to feedback in this series of videos as I would with current day projects. I hope that this suits your standards, but I will play honestly without save-scum, not unlike how some amount of randomness applies to sporting event outcomes, have fun watching me lose or win!
