Five nights at Freddy's explained poorly
Script: Five nights at Freddy's explained poorly
Ah, a nice sunny day, such a glorious world to live in, and I'm stuck in the night shift at my local children entertainment place. What fun.
Five nights at Freddy's is a video game that was created by an indie game developer, Scott Cawthon. I will say nothing about the creator, as I do not care. I will simply talk about the game, I.E. mechanics, graphics, the story from what I can tell, and the gameplay loop. Fan theories will not be discussed as I again, do not care and I will just tell the story from what I can tell. An interesting thing to note is that most of the story connects with other games, so I will ignore them entirely. Anyhow, here is Five nights at Freddy's, explained poorly.
The mechanics of the game are very simple, you have a light, allowing you to see outside for a set amount of time, which is up to you, you have safety doors, keeping very spooky burglars outside of you're office so they can't come in armed and dangerous, and a backup power generator, keeping everything limited. It's a cost effective one too so you don't have a lot to work with. The doors and lights will use power over time, so use them sparingly. Why do the doors take power? Possibly a safety lock making sure nothing will get inside. But that's just a guess. There are 4 antagonists in this restaurant. These antagonists consistently walk towards you and attempt to spook you because they're bored. [Jumpscare] These antagonists are named, Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Silver Foxy. Freddy will start hunting you down in nights 3, 4, 5, 6, and custom night if you have him set to 1 or above. He will attempt to hide in the dark but if you know where he hides he is easy to spot. Chica and Bonnie will go towards you in the right hall and left hall, appearing in their respective doors. Foxy will be in the 4 stages of grief until he gets bored and runs towards you. To avoid them coming into your office you will need to close the doors for a brief moment of time. Sound is your friend as you can simply use sound cues to save on power. Also you can monitor these antagonists with a tablet monitor. Oh and one thing to mention, Silver Foxy. You can not hide from Silver Foxy.
The story is a very basic one, you are a 16 or 17, or some age year old getting a job at the local children entertainment pizza place known as Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. You take the night shift. This is not very spooky as you are givin' the tools to be safe. They probably told you everything, with a few details unnoted as the telephone guide says... Okay so I could've sworn that he said something about a contract on the first night, but I can not find it. He probably does but I'm dumb and don't feel like looking. Speaking of the telephone guide, he is your primary source for understanding game mechanics. In fact, to calm you down he says an introductory greeting. Now is the time to make the "Why in god's name would you stay for more than one night at this fucking horror shitshow" and I am here to not make that joke as it could just be that you could get a penalty for quitting so fast. The telephone guide also mentions something about a bite that took place in 1987, but that's irrelevant. As I'm writing this I'm watching Markiplier and realized something, in Night 4 mechanic noises can be heard, so if the player isn't paying too much attention they may be caught off guard and do something stupid.
The graphics, remember this is in 2014, are surprisingly smooth and nice. It uses pre-rendered images to make extremely nice looking images. The base (and only) resolution is 720p, standard for 2014. Also a 3D effect has been added to the office with some very basic visual effects, and the cameras pan from one side of an image to another to simulate looking around. It's also extremely dark. Oh and Freddy looks kinda goofy half the time and it's not scary.
The gameplay loop is an extremely basic but surprisingly hard loop that you have to master. It goes from camera checks, to door checks, to door update, to wait, and it doesn't stop until you lose or you win.
That is Five nights at Freddy's explained poorly. I hope you enjoy, if you did, like and subscribe because I will
