Florida Trail Hike - Pensacola Beach Sign to Beach Parking, Navarre Beach, More Beach Hiking
Florida Trail Hike #3 - Pensacola Beach Sign to Beach Parking, Navarre Beach, Florida Gulf Islands National Seashore
No fresh drinking water and beach walking under the Florida sun is not good for me! I am a self proclaimed waterholic. Right after my shuttle driver, aka my husband Gary, dropped me off for today's hike, I realized that my water had leaked almost completely out of my water bladder! Alas, he was gone when I made this discovery. I had about six miles of hiking to do, not a far distance. However, with the sun beating down and not knowing how much strenuous soft sand walking was ahead of me, I made a phone call for Gary to turn around.
Gary returned and I met him at the Pensacola Beach sign. We began our slow journey back towards Pensacola Beach and a convenience store to refill my water bottle. It was only about six or eight miles, but the speed limit was low so it took some time to make this drive, purchase the water, and return back to resume my hike. All's well that ends well though. I had fresh water to drink, the sand was more hard packed making for an easier beach walk, and I had the bonus of watching the sunset while waiting for my pick-up shuttle. Another amazing Florida beach walk!
What I love about this FT section:
1. Peaceful Gulf of Mexico beach hike - This section passed a couple of beach access areas where I saw people out enjoying the day, however for most of the time I had the beach to myself.
2. Firmer packed beach sand- There were a few soft sand areas but walking on the beach wasn't as hard through here as it was on the Ft. Pickens beach walk.
3. Food opportunities abound at the end of the hike in Navarre Beach.
4. Bird watching - always a joy to watch the variety of birds that soar above, dive into the water, and run along the shoreline.
What I didn't love about this FT section:
Nothing.
I just had to take a breath and get over my own cross threading of the water bladder mistake that cost me about an hour!
If you are staying in the Ft. Pickens area, check out this section of the Florida Trail. Also, you can check out our Ruff Road Review of Ft. Pickens Campground on this channel.
Next hike: Northbound this time from Mile 32.3 to Mile 22.9- East Bay Trailhead to the
Navarre Beach beach parking area at mile 22.9.
