RV Travel Budget for the First Year - How much did we spend on Food, Fuel, and Fees?
How much did we spend???
We calculated our first year RV travel expenses and found one surprisingly high figure. It was so high, that it equaled our other two categories combined. We wanted to provide a simplified budget talk for our first year of RV travel so we focused on FOOD, FUEL, and FEES. So which one do you think was over the top?
The answer is ...drum roll...FOOD!
We came in under budget for our FUEL and FEES, however we came in slightly over budget for our FOOD. So, in the end, it all balanced out and our actual expenditures totaled together were under budget. Can we keep that up a second year? That's our goal!
This video covers our budget and actual cost for:
FOOD: Including eating out
FUEL: Diesel fuel for Ruff Road, does not include our towed vehicle which we used minimally
FEES: Campground fees
Our style of travel is to be in nature as much as possible, but we are not full on boondockers. We primarily stay in state parks, Army Corps of Engineers parks, city and county parks, and some private parks based on location and what we want to do in the area or if we just want to enjoy sewer hook-ups to get our laundry done. We do have an occasional lot dock and mooch dock here and there.
We like to hike, bike, kayak, and fish - Well, truth be told, Gary likes to fish and even though he won't admit it, he likes the dog walks. I like to hike, bike, and kayak. We both love being around water and woods, sunrises and sunsets. Hopefully, as we gain more experience we'll be more comfortable heading out into more BLM land. For now, we are happy with are campground choices.
