Flotsam Is A City Builder Swimming In Good Features | Flotsam Early Access Gameplay
It’s time for Alice to talk about two things she loves: city builders and the environment in her Flotsam Early Access impressions. It’s quite possibly the cutest watery city builder you’ll see this year, heck, maybe ever? It’s adorable, but hides its difficulty and important message underneath its cutesy art style. As you'll see in our shiny Flotsam gameplay.
In this Flotsam Early Access gameplay - which is out today, by the way, September 26th - you’ll see Alice build up her town, get attached to her drifters (aka townsfolk), and rescue a seagull. You’ll also (unfortunately) hear a lot of watery puns, a notable favourite being SwimCity. Keep your ears pricked for those, because there are some belters.
Flotsam is a bit like Frostpunk, only less icy, both in terms of setting and accessibility to newcomers. Flostpunk? If you’re looking for the best city builder of 2019, then Flotsam is certainly on track to win top spot, as far as Alice is concerned. It’s still in Early Access so isn’t the most full or complete city builder that’s out there, but there are a lot of future ideas from the team at Pajama Llama that would make Flotsam even more brilliant.
If you’re a fan of The Sims and think you’re good at people management, then the drifters may throw you off balance somewhat with how damn stubborn they can be. You may not have heard of Flotsam, but we covered it first way back at EGX last year, where Alice fell in love with Steven Seagull, their mascot of a seagull with a plastic ring stuck round its neck. It’s definitely one of the most environmentally-conscious games out there right now.
