Observation Point Sterga is one of Afghanistan's highest checkpoints; home to a detachment of men from Somme Company, 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.

Perched on a clifftop, it overlooks the edge of the desert and the green zone, where so many have lost their lives.

The elevated position gives the soldiers the perfect vantage point to watch over this part of southern Helmand Province.

The observation post may have strategic advantages, but living conditions are basic and the soldiers must cope with harsh winters and blistering hot summers.

British Forces was there and saw what life is like for those based at OP Sterga.
