The most seriously injured soldier to survive the war in Afghanistan has carried the Olympic Torch on its journey around Britain and Ireland.

Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson walked 300m with the torch as it passed through his hometown of Doncaster.

The paratrooper lost both legs below the knee, broke his back and suffered brain injuries in an IED blast and was told by doctors he would never walk or talk again.
