Sierra Leone is counted as one of the success stories for the British Armed Forces, which has a strong background in training the armies of other nations.

With the Army due to shrink by 20 thousand personnel and the Royal Navy and RAF by 5 thousand each, the post 2020 Armed Forces make large-scale operations like Afghanistan seem unsustainable in future.

But Sierra Leone has shown how help could be given in other ways.
