For Honor Quick Review / Impressions - ThuggedOT
26This Quick Review of Ubisoft's For Honor is meant to help viewers formulate an Honest Opinion in regards to whether or not it's worth buying. I begin by discussing the pros and cons of multiplayer and then go on to reveal my impressions of the single player campaign.
MULTIPLAYER - Based off of a melee combat system, the gameplay of For Honor is impeccable. Deciding whether to attack or defend from three separate directions creates a "chess-like" feeling of competition when playing against another player. On top of that, the level design is superb. Each level is beautiful and consistently feel fresh due to the sheer amount of setting changes through weather / time of day. However, the online experience is somewhat affected by two noticeable problems. Connectivity issues occur way too often, causing friends or opponents to drop out of matches. They also frequently will cause an entire game to drop, forfeiting any character progress or experience you may have earned during that time. Perhaps the most frustrating game feature are what I consider to be "Pay to Play" micro-transactions that allow players to essentially purchase desired Gear Stats for specific characters. This creates a sense of resentment among the players who simply don't have the financial means to do so.
CAMPAIGN - Truthfully, the voice acting, main characters, and plot are all pretty bad. Somehow though, For Honor's single player still manages to be fun. It acts as a simple value add. You don't necessarily have to play it to understand or enjoy the game, but the epic environments, achievements, and cosmetic item rewards that come from it are at least worth trying out.
