Fossil Echo is a 2D platformer with a mix of action, stealth, and puzzle elements... as well as (IMO) some beautiful visuals and music. =)
So... I was actually working on an achievement video for "Black Birds" when it occurred to me that "Black Birds" and "Flawless" are both essentially about being careful. So rather than make two separate videos, I thought I'd combine them into one. ^^
Of course, doing both at the same time did make things a bit harder than just doing "Black Birds"... ^^;; But after a number of failed runs (mostly because of "Flawless", of course), I did finally manage a successful run! =)
So if any of you are having trouble with either of these Achievements (or you're just curious about the strategies I used), hopefully this video will be of some help! ^^
Some additional notes:
- Quitting and continuing is allowed for both of these achievements.
- For the most part, path, strategy, and timing are pretty obvious just from watching the video. The following are just some additional notes/info/trivia:
0:01 Day 1
1:19 (D1-5) BB: I think the black bird on the right (past the guard) is the first black bird in the game.
1:47 (D1-7) BB: I don't know if any of the birds in any of the "chasing the feathers" scenes are actually black (as opposed to black silhouettes of white birds)... but the ones on the path apparently aren't, so just stay on the path and you'll be fine! ^^

3:21 Day 2
3:37 (D2-2) Flawless: Using this timing, jump when you're near the right edge of the middle tapestry.
4:47 (D2-5) Flawless: Using this timing, when you run or jump to the exit, one or two guards will spot you, but don't worry... they won't have time to fire!

5:43 (d-2-1) BB: There's a black bird on the right side of the middle platform!
6:27 Day 3
6:58 (D3-3) Flawless: Hang on the ledge, and just as the robot sentry pings on the left side, start climbing. If you do this right, none of the guards will see you.
- Variation: If the middle guard does spot you, it'll be harder to knock out the robot sentry and the left guard at the same time, so handle them one at a time instead! Jump on the robot sentry, bounce to the left, and use the wall to wall jump back to the safety of the platform above. Then just wait for an opportunity to knock out the left guard without the middle guard spotting you.
7:58 (D3-5) Flawless: Right after the final guard, if you go too far to the right, the robot sentry will spot you. So just wait for the ping before you start moving (the guard shouldn't spot you, but if he does, I think he won't have enough time to fire).
9:22 (D3-6) BB: Be careful! There's a black bird to the right of the campfire (it'll be gone by next morning, though).

9:45 (d-3-1) BB: The birds by the Temple door are white birds. I think the birds on the lower platform are black birds, though. So if for some reason you wanted to complete this Temple, walk under the lower platform and climb up the right side.
10:30 Day 4
13:48 (D4-4) Flawless: It is possible to go almost immediately and get to the left ledge without the robot sentries spotting you... but it's a lot easier to wait a bit to create a better gap for you to slip through. I recommend watching the middle sentry and counting how many times it hits the lower left corner of its path. Start moving after the 5th time.
15:08 dream 4
15:27 (d-4-3) Flawless: Wait for the robot sentry to go right, then left, then right again. Then when it moves left and pings (center), start running (the guard turns away right at this moment).
15:45 Day 5
16:23 (D5-3) BB: Be careful! There's a black bird at the feet of the upper-right guard! Avoid that platform completely by jumping straight up from the lower guard.
16:49 (D5-4) BB: At around 17:07, I'm not sure if the birds on the right and left are black birds or not, but since this isn't a timed chase scene, it couldn't hurt to avoid disturbing them, just in case. =)

19:20 (D6-2) BB: Be careful! There's a black bird on the right edge of the platform under the exit door!

21:07 End-game stats. BB: Oh, in case anybody was curious, it is possible to get both "Explorer" and "Black Birds" in the same run (you can get to all of the Secret Areas without disturbing any black birds).
21:14 Temple completion stats. BB: If you completed all temples, the "all temples" epilogue will play right after this (before the "Black Birds" epilogue).
