This is the eighth mission of the Derelict campaign for Freespace 2. Even though the pirate corvette Ithaca has been destroyed, the pirate threat in Altair remains significant. The civilian freighter Bates has sent a distress signal indicating an onboard explosion. The freighter was carrying supplies for the Capellan refugee fleet according to its manifest, and it's container has been destroyed, scattering its cargo of smaller containers across space. The corvette GTCv Escher has already responded to the distress call, and Alpha wing has been scrambled to provide fighter cover for the effort.
