The developer Roberto J. Dohnert informs announced the arrival of the operating system Freespire 7.0, the free version of Linspire Linux. Thus, the new Freespire 7.0 comes with an Xfce desktop and is based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. This release comes more than nine months after Freespire 6.0. Freespire 7.0 also has the Linux kernel 5.4 with long-term support and uses the latest Xfce 4.14 desktop environment by default. “Freespire is the base of support for the community from which Linspire is built and aims to bring out the best.”, Says Roberto.
Freespire 7.0 comes with many popular applications, including:
the latest Chromium 86 browser;
Mozilla Thunderbird email client 68.12;
Synaptic package manager;
Abiword word processor;
Gnumeric spreadsheet editor;
Parole media player;
torrent downloader via Transmission;
digital painting application KolourPaint;
KPatience card game and DreamChess chess game.
Freespire 7.0 comes with Xfce desktop
In addition, you will find some important utilities such as the Ice SSB software to add and remove specific browsers from the website, such as Firefox, Chromium, Chrome or Vivaldi, Redshift GTK to adjust the color temperature of the screen and reduce eye strain , Boot Repair for repair various startup problems, the Bashtop command line resource monitoring tool, and VSCodium IDE , an open source version of the Visual Studio Code integrated development environment .
Full UEFI support is provided out of the box to offer extended hardware compatibility and allow you to install Freespire on recent machines. At the request of many users, Freespire now also comes with tcsh, C shell (csh) and Z shell (Zsh) shells.
