Frogger, 1983 Parker Bros. (20 From Colecovision #1)
19Wow! What a brilliant port of the Konami (Gremlin/SEGA licensed) arcade classic of 1981, complete with the great music as well! If you never played this before you don't get out much or are too young. In either event, the gist of the game is you control a frog hopping northward across a busy freeway avoiding oncoming cars, across a dirt path which a snake sometimes patrols, across the river and onto turtles (which may dive and drown your froggy) and logs, trying to reach one of the 5 holes at the top to safety. Do this 5 times and start it all over again. Sound perhaps monotonous but the game's challenge and action is constructed so perfectly. Bonus points can be nabbed by collecting the lady frog and jumping on a fly appearing in a hole. Other dangers include an alligator mouth that appears on a hole sometimes, or jumping on a swimming gator's mouth on accident, and an otter that snacks on frogs at the edge of logs. If you haven't played this port of Frogger, you owe it to yourself to hunt down a Colecovision (or emulator) and give it a whirl.
