Soundarya Pradhan was born with visual impairment. Very soon he lost 100% of his vision. Moreover, he was born in one of the most impoverished regions of Odisha, in a village called Boden.

If he had to quote a reason for not doing something, Soundarya had many! So many adversities, so many difficulties. His village had electricity issues. No internet facilities. 2G internet was a luxury. But Soundarya and his brother Prachurya (who is also 100% visually impaired) always dreamt big. They never gave up.

Soundarya is finishing his computer science degree from NIT college in Jamshedpur. He also became the national visually challenged champion of India. He scored 7.5/9 to put a halt to Kishan Gangolli's six consecutive national titles.

Apart from becoming the national champion, Soundarya had won the silver medal at the World Juniors 2018 for the blind in Poland. Soundarya says, "When I was a young kid I used to hear aeroplanes fly above my home and think that one day I too want to be sitting in one of them!" He did become the first person from Boden to travel in an aeroplane! Dreams to come true and they come true for people who dream! Soundarya Pradhan is an inspiration in the world of chess.

Check out this video where IM Sagar Shah talks with Soundarya about life, ambitions, achievements and also game analysis of his favourite win at the National Visually Challenged championships 2022.
