As I looked into gathering all of the unique accessories for this game, I found the directions vague for obtaining the grindstone, which seems to be the only rare drop from a boss battle. The guides pointed me in the right direction, letting me know that the drop randomly appears in the area where you collect Armony’s feathers after the boss fight with Camilla and the ultimate chimera. I was not sure what I was looking for and how to make it appear.
During my unique accessory completion goal on new game plus I managed to get the grindstone during my play through on my third attempt, after having to reset the console a couple of failed times. The full disclaimer is that I still do not know that exact math or method of getting this but I can say this method worked for me.
The item you are looking for will be in the purple room where you collect the feathers after defeating Camilla and the ultimate chimera. As you can see from the video, it will be a rotating crimson box with orange trim and a yellow isignia on the top. It is a similar shape as the armlet of debilitation from the pink alchemist in Heissgart and the drops from Mustang and Armstrong.
Nothing changes the fact that you have to battle the three chimeras and then defeat Camilla with the ultimate chimera each time for a change at the item spawning post battle. In order to increase the efficiency of these fights, I made it a point to level grind to get Edward to level 99. The logic follows that the harder you hit the quicker the bosses will fall and the quicker you can see if the grindstone drops.
While this will take some patience, the best place to streamline the level grind is by going back and forth between the dining room and the east hallway 2 room. There are two transmutable cannons located near the entranceways between the two rooms. I normally enter the dining room and turn right at a 45-degree angle while charging, transmute the cannon, order Alphonse to operate it, and then draw the enemies away from him by going to the opposite end of the room. Once you collect the spoils, leave the room to go into the east hallway 2. In this room walk straight ahead while charging, transmute the cannon, order Alphonse to operate it, run forward to a transmutable sucker, operate that with Edward and stand aside. Alphonse will shoot everything and the sucker will draw the enemies from around the corner into the cannons line of fire. Rinse and repeat this process with any experience or combo experience boosting accessories equipped to increase your yield.
With your main character at level 99, dispatch the three chimeras the most efficient way possible and enter the fight with Camilla and the ultimate chimera. I immediately equip the lucky bag on Edward, increases enemy drops, not sure how much this helps and then go attack the ultimate chimera. It will go down fast allowing you time to locate the crossbow transmutable object. Transmute this but don’t operate it yet. Instead, let Camilla resurrect the ultimate chimera and kill it a couple more times. Not sure if this helps, but I figured it couldn’t hurt since it is so easy to dispatch. When you are ready to end the battle, have Alphonse operate the crossbow. At your current level, Camilla dies quickly within a few hits.

After the fight check the area for a crimson box with orange trim and a yellow insignia on the top, resetting if it doesn’t appear to try again. If you killed Camilla with Alphonse on the crossbow, he will stay put. This is a welcome bonus not having him meandering about while I search for the grindstone.
I hope this helps anyone trying to get this thing or at least provides a beginning strategy.
