Lagoon – Final Battle Marathon and Ending (Maxed Stats and Complete Inventory)
I finish lagoon on the Super Nintendo using the original cartridge on the original hardware. I begin the video by loading the saved file located in Lagoon Castle right before the secret area room where the final battles take place. I took the time to gather all possible items for a complete inventory which includes all the weapons, crystals, staves, armor, and rings. This includes the easily missed Shiny ball which is sold at Voloh for 10000 gold and requires some grinding in the area. I personally choose the innermost dwarf cave area near the silence cave. This way I could hop into the silence cave when my magic ran low and abuse the rooms rapid magic replenishing ability during my farming excursions. The only things not included are storyline items that are consumed through mandatory events needed to progress My character life, magic, and attributes are also maxed out, having reached the level cap of 35.
After going through my inventory to show the completeness, I exit through the door into the final secret area to begin the marathon of six boss fights. Immediately I face the green demon, probably the first form of the evil spirit, who is sealed in a transparent container and has four eyes. As you attack him the eyes will start to close on by one and he will eventually emerge from the container without any warning. This second form isn’t too bad and will go down with enough frontal damage leaving the demon corpse behind on the floor. The door to the north will open in the wall allowing you to proceed.
Up in this room you will find Thor and Zerah who will reveal more about the evil spirit and plot through some rough dialog. Zerah transforms and begins to battle. The trick here and for the remaining battles in the marathon is to think about positioning for the next form while you are fighting the current form. This will allow you to avoid a lot of cheap first-time player traps that the game has set.
We want to defeat Zerah along the top wall near the center if possible, for the next battle with Thor. Once Zerah is beaten you will receive some more dialog from Zerah where he mentions Thor reviving
the evil spirit and then dies. Thor appears in the center of the room and engages you after speaking. From this position I am immediately pulled backward through Thor allowing me to score a hit and most importantly get in front of him where I want to be for the next form. Once you land a few hits he will immediately transform into a flying bird form. If you had remained above Thor, you would have been pulled through the bird form and instantly killed.
The bird flies around in a figure 8 pattern and shoots series of lasers and fire rings. The idea here is to stay in the lower area and position yourself about a third of the way from the right side of the screen. This is will allow you to intercept the bird at the lower right curve of its figure eight pattern where you can jump and attack at the orb it is carrying. It might take a little while to dial in but most of the projectiles will miss at this location and you will be able to attack with relative safety. Be care full and utilize the cure ring if he smacks you around too much. As you progress, the orb will crack more, and the boss will gradually turn red before exploding.
After the fight, Thor will be on the floor. You can chat with him for a final plot reveal and his pendant. I am still unsure what it does and think that it might just be symbolic of the combined power for the final battle. The final battle with the evil spirit is back in the previous room. Since you will immediately take a hit when the battle starts, I choose to equip the cure ring before proceeding. The corpse you left behind from the second battle is now red and rises from the ground before your eyes. He then teleports behind you smacking you. With the cure ring keeping my life charged, I can adopt a more aggressive tactic and just to get in front of him and trade hits until he dies. If he did start to get the upper hand, you could employ some lateral movement to recover and then go back to your attack.
With this boss defeated the game has been beaten. You get some additional dialogue and then the ending plays.
