Games Workshop: Let's build the Indomitus Necrons!
My brother and I decided to cash in a bunch of store credit and split an Indomitus box. He wanted the Space Marines for his no- nonsense Raptors chapter, which was fine by me, as I got all the killer Egyptian space robots. Fair trade. I'll probably get those fancy blade guard veterans from him as they clash with his sparsely decorated Primaris.
So how are the 'crons? I certainly appreciate getting a fair chunk of models in the box. I can't say I ever enjoy snipping thin parts off of plastic sprues though. The Skorpekh were quite annoying having to wiggle their heads and connecting tubes underneath their torso armor. I ended up with all sorts of stress marks on arms and shoulder pads due to difficult removal as well.
I noticed the legs of the tripod models in this box are significantly chunkier than Szeras, who you may recall me stating I felt was quite delicate and spindly. Perhaps due to their push fit nature they needed to be beefed up some?
Some of the engineering decisions are head scratchers too. Weird connecting parts that sit inside other pieces (that then require multiple pieces on top of that to hold everything together), weird jigsaw patterns on the backs of heads (something I noticed with Szeras too), and all sorts of rods to push fit that didn't want to be pushed into their respective holes.
I feel a lot of these design decisions are to cut down on part swapping/ trading. There's no logical reason I can see for such strange cuts, other than to deter people from stockpiling parts and doing our own custom figures like in the olden days. This isn't anything new though, and I feel like I toot this horn every time a new pushfit set releases.
One thing's for sure- I love the variety of model selection for the Necron side. There are a lot of visually distinct models for a pretty bland army, when it came to unit variety.
At the very least I've got myself a nice skirmish force, and evil machine killers are such a universal gaming trope I'm sure I'll get some gaming use out of them somewhere down the line.
Who knows, maybe we'll actually play 40k proper after 20+ years...?
