The Viks are one crew I've built in all three editions of Malifaux. There's something appealing about tough as nail wielding samurai swords and big guns just as adeptly. Third edition seems no different in that regard!
The biggest difference right off the bat is the addition of the true Chambers sisters, Vanessa. I haven't had a chance to play 3rd so I'm not sure if she's changed much since 2E. Getting her books to sit correctly was a bit of a chore. It was difficult to tell where they lined up. I'll also tell you this- she's got some really delicate parts to cut out!
In fact, the whole crew does. This set more than any 3E crew box I've built "feels" like a Malifaux kit again. Lots of thin, small, and complex builds. I see that as both a positive and a negative. Sometimes it's an enjoyable challenge, sometimes it's a gooey, gluey mess that I can't figure out where the parts are even supposed to connect. In essence, it's Malifaux.
Jump Vik I almost ruined, not realizing there was a tiny piece to connect her jacket to her arm with the shoulder pad and blade. Also be aware of her hair having a tiny part that needs to be pushed in after all the other pieces go on. Crouch Vik actually went together fairly easy, her challenge was lining up the collar parts with the torso.
The new ronin seem a lot less like cosplayers and more like a bunch of tough 19th century women. I found their poses a little off. The squatter is a weird choice of poses, while the blade wielder and smoker seem to have too long of arms.
